Guillermo del Toro Gómez is a Mexican filmmaker, His work has been identified by a strong link to horror and fairy tales, as well as an attempt to give the grotesque an expressive or visual beauty. Throughout his life, he has been fascinated by monsters, which he believes as powerful symbols.
Dick Smith, a special effects artist, taught Del Toro makeup and special effects techniques. After working for ten years as a special effects makeup designer, he founded Necropia and The Guadalajara International Film Festival was also co-founded by him.
Throughout his career, del Toro has shifted between Spanish language films such as Cronos (1993), and Pan’s Labyrinth (2006), and English language films, including Hellboy (2004), Pacific Rim (2013), Crimson Peak (2015), The Shape of Water (2017), and Pinocchio (2022).
He worked on the films like The Orphanage (2007), Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (2010), The Hobbit (2012–2014), Mama (2013), and a lot more.
